ABOUT IAN

Actor, singer and musician Ian Fairlee (AEA) most recently appeared as composer Jonathan Larson in Theatre Raleigh’s production of TICK, TICK… BOOM directed by original cast member Amy Spanger. Of Ian’s performance, Triangle Arts Review said: “Fairlee creates a Jon who is worth rooting for, a character that touches the dreamer inside of every viewer.” Triangle Review said Ian as Larson “captures and exudes the passion and anxiety, the love and the fear, that dominate his life and his relationships during this critical chapter of his life.”

Ian appeared in the Off-Broadway production of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE (Musicals Tonight) as Dromio of Ephesus, alongside twin brother Matthew. Other Off-Broadway roles include Freddy in THE UNDERCLASSMAN (Prospect Theatre Company) and Sommers in FOOLERIE (NYMF). With Matthew, Ian also produced, created music arrangements for, and performed in, two very successful cabarets at Green Room 42, THE VERY GOOD SHOW and THE EVEN BETTER SHOW.

Ian made his professional voiceover debut as the narrator for the Smithsonian Channel documentary SMITHSONIAN TIME CAPSULE: BEYOND STONEWALL, which tells the story of the LGBTQ+ community in America through rare artifacts in the Smithsonian collections. His voice can also be heard on commercials for Bonobos, Circle K and Mike’s Hard Lemonade.

Ian earned rave reviews and was named Best Featured Actor in a Musical by BroadwayWorld.com Raleigh for playing Jerry Lee Lewis in MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Theatre Raleigh and Cape Fear Regional Theatre. He also played Lewis in MDQ at New Stage Theatre in Jackson MS. An accomplished musician, Ian often works as an accompanist/rehearsal pianist. He holds a BFA in musical theatre from Pace University.
